Transformation into a Radiant Jewel in Ibiza

Interior Design: Nadja Schildknecht

Construction Management: Malales

With creative solutions and a minimal budget, an unremarkable house was transformed into a radiant jewel with breathtaking sea views.

A house with an exceptional location and breathtaking sea views from every room had been on the market for a long time, as its original design deterred many potential buyers.

Fifteen years ago, I accepted the challenge and, with minimal financial resources and creative solutions, managed to completely transform the house in a short period of time. I even repurposed some of the existing items, giving them new life by sanding and painting them. Through targeted interventions, the rooms were given a fresh, radiant look.

The kitchen received new fronts, and both the counter and the stairs were clad in wood. The use of microcement, which was applied to the floors and other areas, instantly gave the house a modern appearance. When we had the facade painted white, the ideal Ibiza architecture of the house was fully revealed. The once empty terrace was covered and transformed into a cozy place to relax and enjoy the sun. Blue, white, green, and wood dominated the new design, blending perfectly with the idyllic surroundings of Ibiza. For the furnishings, I scoured small shops in Ibiza—there wasn’t much else available on the island—but also found suitable pieces in Madrid to complete the style. To ensure a smooth execution on-site, I worked closely with a local architect. We made a great team: I provided the concrete ideas, she executed them, and I regularly oversaw the construction with short trips to Ibiza. The house was transformed into a radiant jewel, reflecting the charm of the island with its modern yet traditional design.
